Newborn Photography F.A.Q
When to book your newborn session
The best time to photograph newborn babies is when they are under two weeks of age, after two weeks babies are a little harder to settle and things like colic and baby acne can start to flare up. You can contact me at any time during your pregnancy to give me an estimated due date, I will then make a tentative booking and when you arrive home from hospital with your brand new baby you can contact me to arrange a suitable time and day for your session.
I forgot to schedule a newborn session is it too late?
It is never too late to have your baby photographed. It is important to manage the expectations of a session. Curly sleepy newborn photos are never guaranteed but are usually achieved with babies under 2 weeks. A 6- week baby may sleep during a session and have awake time, but may not be able to curl into womb positions or want to be wrapped. I do believe that generally babies can be successfully photographed at any age.
Where your sessions held?
Newborn sessions are held in my studio in Santa Clarita, CA or in the comfort of your home.
How long will your session take?
Newborn sessions can take 2-4 hours, allowing enough time for feeding and comforting.
How to prepare for a session?
Before the session, you will receive am email which details how to prepare for your session. It is important to follow these simple steps I provide to help ensure that you and your baby are ready for your session.
What if my baby doesn’t sleep and cries during the session?
With over 12 years of experience photographing newborns and babies, I’ve developed gentle techniques to soothe little ones and help them settle comfortably. It’s completely normal for babies to get fussy—we’ll take our time with breaks for feeding, changing, and cuddling as needed.
I recommend bringing a pacifier or any comfort item your baby enjoys. While it’s uncommon for a baby to cry through an entire session, if that happens, we’ll happily reschedule to ensure a calm and enjoyable experience for everyone.
My baby just got circumcised should we still come?
As long as he is healing well yes. Most babies have healed by their session. Many parents use vaseline or another gel that the Dr. has recommended for healing. I will keep the area protected and we can avoid naked images if you wish. I photograph many babies that have been circumcised with no issues. If your baby has had a later circumcision, they can still have their session and all normal precautions are made. Please feel free to discuss this with us during your session. I want you to be fully involved in the process.
What if my toddler does not cooperate?
Children are children, and I do my best I can when working with them of any age. I have quite a few tricks up our sleeves and with your permission, we can offer them treats or incentives for capturing sweet images.
Do you provide props?
Yes! I provide everything you will need for your newborn session: a newborn posing beanbag, background fabrics, hats, headbands, a basket or two, blankets, and wraps in different colors and etc. A lot of my newborn props are knitted by me. The picture will hold a different meaning if we utilize your hats, blankets, or other props you want to include in the picture.
What to expect after newborn photography session
7-10 days after your session, you will receive a link to your private online gallery of soft edit images and once you choose the images in your package editing will begin.
Is there retouching? My baby has acne and my toddler has a scratch on their nose!
Any visible baby acne or small scratches will be gently removed during the final retouching process.
What health and safety precautions are taken during a newborn session
My top priority continues to be health and safety and I take numerous precautions at my sessions to mitigate any risk for your family and myself. I clean, wash and sanitize all props and equipment before each session. In addition to my already high standards of hand washing and the use of hand sanitizer throughout the session.
