I’m really looking forward to our session together! We’ll go over everything you need to feel prepared—from picking the perfect location and coordinating outfits to answering any questions you have along the way. My goal is to capture who you are, not just how you look, so these photos feel meaningful and real. Here are a few tips to help you get ready for your session:
Location: We’ll choose a spot that fits your family’s vibe and feels like “you.” If you’re leaning toward an at-home session, that’s perfect—homes add a personal touch, and as long as there’s good natural light, it’ll work beautifully. For outdoor sessions, I have some favorite places but am always open to new ideas! Timing for the Best Light: The timing of our session can make all the difference. For home sessions, late mornings tend to have the best light. For outdoor sessions, I usually recommend shooting in the early morning or an hour or two before sunset, when the light is soft and flattering. If an evening session works for your family, consider giving the kids a little downtime or a late nap beforehand, so everyone feels fresh and ready to go. Session Length: My family sessions usually last about an hour, which is the perfect amount of time to get a variety of beautiful shots without anyone feeling rushed. What to Wear: Wardrobe should feel like you. Coordinating colors tend to look better than perfectly matching outfits, creating a natural, cohesive look. If you’d like input, I’m happy to chat and help you pick outfits that will work well together. Props and Personal Touches: I typically keep my sessions prop-free, focusing on genuine connections. But if there’s something meaningful you’d like to include, just let me know! Relaxed Approach with Kids: Kids don’t always love posing, so I keep things easy and let them be themselves. The best photos often come when they’re simply playing or exploring. For family shots, I’ll guide you to interact naturally with your child so we can capture genuine moments. To help things go smoothly, make sure your little ones have had a snack and some rest before we start, and feel free to bring some easy-to-eat, mess-free snacks for breaks. It can also help to let them know they’ll be meeting a friend who’s taking some fun photos of them! Punctuality Matters: Starting on time is key since we’re working with natural light. Plan for any parking or traffic, so we can begin as scheduled. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions, ideas, or just want to chat about the session. I can’t wait to create these memories with you! How to Prepare Children for a Family Session Set Expectations: Explain the session in a fun, positive way. Let them know it's just like playing and spending time together. Outfit Choosing: Involve them in the process of selecting outfits to make them feel more excited and engaged! Plan Ahead: Avoid scheduling any other activities on the day of the session to keep them rested and focused. Bring Snacks & Comfort Items: Pack easy snacks and a favorite toy or blanket to keep them happy and calm. Practice & Stay Relaxed: Practice smiles at home, but keep it light. Stay calm during the session to help them feel comfortable. Plan a Reward: Promise a small treat afterward, like ice cream, to keep them motivated. Comments are closed.
