First Birthday and Cake Smash Session in Santa Clarita

I photographed this adorable baby girl as a newborn, and now she was back in my studio for her first birthday session. One year later, she was standing, smiling, exploring, and showing so much personality.
We started her session with a cream crochet outfit from my studio wardrobe and a soft balloon setup in blush, ivory, and beige. I love starting first birthday sessions with regular milestone portraits before bringing out the cake. It gives us a chance to capture all those expressions and little details at this age.

For her second look, we used soft draped fabric with a delicate white and blush outfit. Then came the pearls and a beautiful blush dress for another completely different look. All three outfits were from my studio baby wardrobe.

​And we finished with the cake smash. She kept the blush dress on with a simple white cake, and then it was time to let her explore, taste, and make a little mess.

A first birthday session can be so much more than just cake smash photos. I like creating several different looks so the final gallery includes classic baby portraits, birthday photos, and the cake smash itself.

My Santa Clarita studio wardrobe includes outfits for babies from newborn through approximately 18 months, along with headbands, birthday hats, props, and accessories. Parents don’t have to worry about shopping for several outfits before the session. We can choose everything together from the studio wardrobe.

​t was wonderful having this little girl back in front of my camera and seeing how much she has changed since I photographed her as a newborn. Now her family has both ends of that incredible first year captured, from those tiny newborn days to her first birthday.
