About Baby Milestone Sessions
Baby Milestone sessions are meant for capturing your little one at different development stages throughout his/her first year. Most clients will choose to capture two of the major milestones, a sitter session and a one year session.
Sitter Session. This session typically takes place around 6-7 months or when the baby is sitting unsupported.
The One Year Session is another major milestone session that captures babies around their first birthday.
Simple is Best. I want your baby to be the center of attention, not the outfits or props. I prefer simple and monochromatic clothing and
I have a variety to choose from, in my studio. If you decide to bring your own outfits, please choose the ones that fit the theme and color scheme of your session.
Time. These sessions take place in my studio or outdoors and should be scheduled for a time when your baby is usually awake and active, not during naptime.
An Outdoor Session is scheduled 1.5 hours before sunset to capture that stunning Golden Hour light. I can help you find the perfect location, one that will fit your vision for the session.
Less is more. The more outfit changes we have, the more tired your baby will get. That's why we like to keep it to 2-3 outfit changes for these kinds of sessions.
Props. I provide props and outfits for milestone sessions. You don't need to bring anything, however, lovies/sentimental pieces like heirlooms, favorite toys, blankets or books, are very welcomed.

3 Month
Milestone The focus of this session is to capture your baby’s sweet little smile and many adorable facial expressions. Some babies are able to lay on their tummy and lift up their head, which makes for even more amazing images. Rather than booking this session right at 3 months, plan to schedule it when your baby frequently smiles and laughs when she/he sees you!

6 Month
Milestone Six Month Milestone or Sitter Sessions are one of my favorite sessions! This session is about the new skill of sitting up and doing cute things like grabbing feet and toes or holding little toys! This is also a time when parents really start seeing big changes in their baby’s looks. She/He may have enough hair now to pull into a little sprout or clip on a little bow. Often a tooth has made its appearance! The typical age range for this session is anywhere between 6-9 months, depending on your baby’s development stage. Babies closer to nine months are crawling and can often hold themselves up standing, if holding onto furniture or your hand. This age is just so cute!

First Birthday
& Cake Smash Your baby is turning one!! This is a milestone that I absolutely love to capture for my clients. First Birthday Sessions often include a Cake Smash and they can be done in-studio, or outdoors.
Scheduling. If you’d like to use your baby's portraits for invitations or displays at his/her birthday party, I recommend scheduling your session for when your baby is 11 months old. This will give you enough time to order prints and any other products that you’d like to display. Cake. I recommend a two or three-tiered 6" inch vanilla cake (not chocolate!). The icing should be white or pastels as bright/dark colors tend to stain skin and clothing. If you haven't decided on a bakery yet, I highly recommend my favorite local one, @Justbaked_LA |
We start off with some portraits and I always encourage the whole family to join in.
It’s a great opportunity to update your family photos, in addition to your birthday girl's/boy's solo portraits. This step also helps your little one to get familiar with the new environment, relax and get into the swing of things. Also, if you would like your baby to be photographed with her/his favorite toy or other special item, feel free to bring them to the session. |
Now we bring out the cake! Usually, we let the baby play with it for a while and encourage her/him to touch and taste it. Most of the time the little one discovers the yumminess of icing and cake and that, of course, will lead to the most adorable images of happy smiles, messy hands and icing caked giggling faces.
Sometimes a baby isn't interested in the cake, so we either let mom or dad step in and help a little with the smashing of the cake, or we bring out our secret weapon (a big spoon!) to get the job done. Other times we hide a tiny snack in the cake to get the little fingers to really dig in. As you can see, all tricks of the trade are being used to ensure that we will get great photos of your little birthday girl/boy. |

INSTED OF A CAKE SMASH
|
|
Maybe your child has food allergies or just isn’t really into sweets. Maybe you want images that better represent your child’s personality and life or that have special meaning to your family. If that’s the case, or if you just aren’t into the cake smash theme, here are some other food ideas for having messy fun without frosting!
Keep it healthy
If you’re a little more health-conscious or your child just loves fresh fruit, why not choose a watermelon or a variety of fruits? This option is very colorful and maybe makes your images a little more unique. You can even choose fruits based on the time of year, giving your photos a great seasonal feel!
Add some color with popsicles
Nothing says summer like a popsicle! If you’re looking for a really colorful theme, popsicles are the perfect warm weather choice. Not only do these sweet treats make for fun photos, but they can also feel good on your little one’s gums and help soothe them during the session.
Scream for ice cream
Not into popsicles? Go for a different cold treat with an ice cream sundae! You get all the messy fun of a cake smash, plus ice cream makes an adorable theme for your photo shoot.
Enjoy some donuts
How about donuts instead of cake? Go for different icing colors and flavors to add even more fun and variety to your images -- and to find out which donut is your child’s favorite!
