-What health and safety precautions are taken during a newborn session
My top priority continues to be health and safety and I take numerous precautions at my sessions to mitigate any risk for your family and myself. I clean, wash and sanitize all props and equipment before each session. In addition to my already high standards of hand washing and the use of hand sanitizer throughout the session, I will also wear a mask.
Safety Education completed:
APNPI Safety Education training course.
Kelly Brown Newborn Photography safety training.
-Are you vaccinated for COVID?
I am fully vaccinated.
- When to book your newborn session
The best time to photograph newborn babies is when they are under two weeks of age, after two weeks babies are a little harder to settle and things like colic and baby acne can start to flare up. You can contact me at any time during your pregnancy to give me an estimated due date, I will then make a tentative booking and when you arrive home from hospital with your brand new baby you can contact me to arrange a suitable time and day for your session.
-I forgot to schedule a newborn session is it too late?
It is never too late to have your baby photographed. It is important to manage the expectations of a session. Curly sleepy newborn photos are never guaranteed but are usually achieved with babies under 2 weeks. A 6- week baby may sleep during a session and have awake time, but may not be able to curl into womb positions or want to be wrapped. I do believe that generally babies can be successfully photographed at any age.
-Where your sessions held?
Newborn sessions are held in my studio in Santa Clarita, CA or in the comfort of your home. If the weather is warm enough and you are comfortable with the idea, we can take the session outdoors.
Why in-home session convenience fee is charged?
The in-home session convenience fee covers my assistant and my time to gather all appropriate props, pack up all equipment, travel to your home, set up the equipment, break down and pack the equipment again, travel back, and then unload the equipment and props again.
-How long will your session take?
Newborn sessions can take 2-4 hours, allowing enough time for feeding and comforting.
As a newborn photographer, I choose not to mention the duration of my newborn sessions in my packages for several reasons:
Flexibility: Newborn sessions can vary in duration based on factors such as the baby's mood, feeding breaks, and other unforeseen circumstances. By not specifying a fixed time in my packages, I allow myself the flexibility to provide a session that meets the needs of each individual baby and family.
Client Comfort: Newborn sessions require a calm and relaxed environment to capture those precious moments. By not emphasizing the session duration, I help alleviate any pressure or time constraints that clients might feel. This creates a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for both the baby and family.
Individualized Approach: Each newborn is unique, and their photography session should reflect that. By not limiting the session to a specific duration, I take the time needed to capture the perfect shots and ensure that each family receives a personalized experience.
Focus on Quality: Instead of focusing solely on the duration of the session, I prioritize capturing high-quality images that truly reflect the essence and beauty of the moment.
-How to prepare for a session?
Before the session, you will receive am email which details how to prepare for your session. It is important to follow these simple steps I provide to help ensure that you and your baby are ready for your session.
-What if my baby doesn’t sleep?
Some babies do not sleep thru their session. Some are wide awake the entire time!! I can usually still achieve some amazing images, especially if they are wrapped!
-What if my baby cries?
Babies are babies and they will cry! I do everything I can to soothe and comfort them and surround them with a comfortable environment. I have been working with newborns for 8 years straight and as a Mother herself has many soothing techniques and tips.
My baby just got circumcised should we still come?
As long as he is healing well yes. Most babies have healed by their session. Many parents use vaseline or another gel that the Dr. has recommended for healing. I will keep the area protected and we can avoid naked images if you wish. I photograph many babies that have been circumcised with no issues. If your baby has had a later circumcision, they can still have their session and all normal precautions are made. Please feel free to discuss this with us during your session. I want you to be fully involved in the process.
What if my toddler does not cooperate?
Children are children, and I do my best I can when working with them of any age. I have quite a few tricks up our sleeves and with your permission, we can offer them treats or incentives for capturing sweet images.
-Do you provide props?
Yes! I provide everything you will need for your newborn session: a newborn posing beanbag, background fabrics, hats, headbands, a basket or two, blankets, and wraps in different colors and etc. A lot of my newborn props are knitted by me. The picture will hold a different meaning if we utilize your hats, blankets, or other props you want to include in the picture.
-What to expect after newborn photography session
One week after your session, you will receive a link to your private online gallery of soft edit images and once you choose the images in your package editing will begin.
Is there retouching? My baby has acne and my toddler has a scratch on their nose!
YES! There is always retouching available. Standard retouching is included, such as the removal of acne or assistants who are spotting.
