-What health and safety precautions are taken during a newborn session
My top priority continues to be health and safety and I take numerous precautions at my sessions to mitigate any risk for your family and myself. I schedule only two or three newborn sessions per week. I clean, wash and sanitize all props and equipment before each session. In addition to my already high standards of hand washing and the use of hand sanitizer throughout the session, I will also wear a mask.
Safety Education completed:
APNPI Safety Education training course.
Kelly Brown Newborn Photography safety training.
-Are you vaccinated for COVID?
I am fully vaccinated.
- When to book your newborn session
The best time to photograph newborn babies is when they are under two weeks of age, after two weeks babies are a little harder to settle and things like colic and baby acne can start to flare up. You can contact me at any time during your pregnancy to give me an estimated due date, I will then make a tentative booking and when you arrive home from hospital with your brand new baby you can contact me to arrange a suitable time and day for your session.
-I forgot to schedule a newborn session is it too late?
It is never too late to have your baby photographed. It is important to manage expectations of a session. Curly sleepy newborn photos are never guaranteed but usually achieved with babies under 2 weeks. A 6- week baby may sleep during a session and have awake time, but may not be able to curl into womb positions or want to be wrapped. I do believe that generally babies can be successfully photographed at any age.
-Where your sessions held
Newborn sessions are held in the comfort of your home or in my studio in Santa Clarita, CA. If the weather is warm enough and you are comfortable with the idea, we can take the session outdoors.
-How long will your session take
Newborn sessions can take 2-4 hours, allowing enough time for feeding and comforting.
-How to prepare for a session
Before the session you will receive am email which details how to prepare for your session. It is imprtant to follow these simple staps I provide to help ensure that you and your baby are ready for your session.
-What if my baby doesn’t sleep?
Some babies do not sleep thru their session. Some are wide awake the entire time!! I can usually still achieve some amazing images, especially if they are wrapped!
-What if my baby cries?
Babies are babies and they will cry! I do everything we can to soothe and comfort them and surround them with a comfortable environment. I have been working with newborns for 6 years straight and as a Mother herself has many soothing techniques and tips.
My baby just got circumcised should we still come?
As long as he is healing well yes. Most babies have healed by their session. Many Parents use vaseline or another gel that the Dr. has recommended for healing. I will keep the area protected and we can avoid naked images if you wish. I photograph many babies that have been circumcised with no issues. If your baby has had a later circumcision, they can still have their session and all normal precautions are made. Please feel free to discuss this with us during your session. I want you to be fully involved in the process.
My baby still has their umbilical cord on, is it ok to take photos?
Yes! Most babies that come still have their cord on, as it may take a full two weeks for it to fall off. When babies are wrapped, I wrap with their diaper on and cover the cord so that it does not catch on the fabric. When they are naked, I gently can cover the area to keep it protected. I am very cautious with newborn babies and we are aware of the post delivery care that is needed.
What if my toddler does not cooperate?
Children are children, and I do the best I can when working with them of any age. I have quite a few tricks up our sleeves and with your permission we can offer them treats or incentives for capturing sweet images.
-Do you provide props
Yes! I provide everything you will need for your newborn session: newborn posing beanbag, background fabrics, hats, headbands, a basket or two, blankets, and wraps in different colors. A lot of my newborn props are knitted by me. The picture will hold a different meaning if we utilize your hats, blankets, or other props you wanted to include in the picture.
-What to expect after newborn photography session
One week after your session, you will receive a link to your private online gallery of soft edit images and once you choose your images in your package editing will begin.
Is there retouching? My baby has acne and my toddler has a scratch on their nose!
YES! There is always retouching available. Standard retouching is included, such as removal of acne or assistants who are spotting.
-Do you offer to order prints
I provide professional quality prints and canvases that can be ordered directly from your final gallery. This is completely optional since you own the digital files, but I do recomend you to use a professional lab when you print your photos. You invested in a professional newborn session, and you will want any images you print to also represent the high quality portraits you have captured.
Ask me if you would like to order beautiful books and albums.
