Dress Simply: Dress your baby in loose-fitting clothing to avoid any marks or indentations on their skin. A simple onesie or diaper cover can work well. Wardrobe for family: Please wear neutral color outfits for your family session. White always looks nice. There is clothing that looks cool in life, and it loses in the photo. For example, vibrant purple, vivid orange, or hot pink will not give a beautiful shade on the face of the one who wore such clothes, and, at the same time, on the face of others. Solid colors photograph well. Big logos, graphics, characters, or busy patterns can be distracting. My favorite choice for moms is flattering flowy dresses that are framed under the bust with neutral tones. For dads, I love a classic solid button down shirt, polos or a henley. Pack Essentials: In your diaper bag, bring along extra diapers, wipes, pacifier, and a change of clothes for your baby. Accidents can happen, and it's best to be prepared. Also, bring some water and snacks for yourself and your family members. If the baby normally does not take a pacifier, please have it just in case. Newborn sessions are new to your baby and they often want to self-soothe by sucking more often than normal. I promise that using a pacifier during a session will not encourage bad habits! Feeding Time: Usually a full baby is a happy baby! Try to feel the little one right before they arrive, but sometimes that is not always possible if a long drive is ahead of ypu. If it has been more than an hour and a half since baby has been fed, I typically recommend my clients go ahead and have a feeding before we get started with photos. If you prefer to bring along a bottle with breastmilk or formula, make sure you have that in your diaper bag. If you need anything specific for nursing (nipple shield, Boppy pillow, etc.) be sure to bring those along as you are packing for your session. Stay Calm: Babies are sensitive to their parents' emotions, so try to stay relaxed and calm. If you're feeling stressed, it can affect your baby's mood. Be Ready for Breaks: Newborns may need breaks for feeding, diaper changes, or just to comfort them. Be patient and understanding if the photographer suggests taking breaks during the session. Keep Baby Calm: To help keep your baby calm during the session, consider using techniques such as swaddling, gentle rocking, or a pacifier if your baby uses one. These can help soothe your baby and make them more comfortable. Be Patient: Newborn photography sessions can take time. Be prepared for breaks and moments when your baby needs attention or soothing. Patience is key to achieving great shots. Never Force a Pose: If the baby is not comfortable in a certain pose, it's crucial not to force them into it. Always prioritize the baby's comfort and well-being over a specific shot. Relax and Enjoy: Remember that the primary goal is to capture beautiful memories of your baby. Enjoy the process, and don't stress too much about achieving perfect shots. Sometimes the most natural and candid moments are the ones you'll treasure the most. By following these tips and working closely with your photographer, you can have a successful and enjoyable newborn photography session that results in beautiful memories of your little one. When we take pictures of a child's first birthday, we're capturing more than just moments. It's like a special story we tell with our cameras. Imagine the little one looking at the big birthday cake. They're curious and excited. When they taste the cake, you can see the happiness in their eyes. It's like they're telling us how much they love it. And their small hands reaching out are like a hug in a picture. But there's something deeper too. The pictures show how the child has grown in the first year. They show the love and care parents give. It's the nights when parents stay awake to take care of them, the songs they sing to make them sleep, and all the cuddles they share. Taking pictures on the first birthday isn't just about what we see. It's about what we feel. It's about the start of a new part of their life. When we look at these pictures in the future, they remind us of the good times, the love, and the amazing journey we're on. So remember, the first birthday pictures are more than just photos. They're like a special way of showing how much we love and enjoy watching the child grow, one picture at a time. Please email me at zammphotography@gmail.com to book your first birthday session outdoors or in studio. The Timeless Elegance: Why I Prefer White Color for Newborn Photography
Newborn photography is a cherished art that captures the essence of innocence and beauty during the early days of a baby's life. As a professional photographer specializing in newborn portraits, I have come to appreciate and favor the simplicity and elegance of white color in my compositions. In this blog post, I'd like to share the reasons why I believe white is the perfect choice for newborn photography. 1. Symbolizes Purity and Innocence: White is often associated with purity and innocence, making it an ideal color to represent the pure and untainted nature of a newborn. Its pristine appearance creates a beautiful contrast against the delicate features of a baby, allowing their innocence to shine through the images. 2. Timeless and Classic: White is a timeless color that never goes out of style. It offers a clean and classic look that stands the test of time, ensuring that your newborn photos will remain relevant and captivating even as the years pass by. 3. Enhances Softness and Texture: Using a white backdrop or soft white fabrics accentuates the softness and texture of a newborn's skin and features. It helps create a dreamy and ethereal atmosphere that adds to the overall charm of the photographs. 4. Focus on the Baby: By keeping the color palette simple with white, the attention is drawn directly to the newborn, becoming the primary focus of the photographs. It eliminates distractions, allowing the viewer to fully appreciate the baby's unique characteristics. In conclusion, my preference for using white color in newborn photography is rooted in its symbolism of purity, its timeless elegance, and its ability to emphasize the baby's natural beauty. It provides a canvas that allows me to create enchanting and captivating portraits that parents will treasure for a lifetime. As a photographer, there is nothing more rewarding than capturing those precious moments and preserving the fleeting magic of a newborn's early days. Choose the right time: Schedule the cake smash session when your child is rested and in a good mood. Avoid scheduling it during nap time or when they might be hungry. Get a cake: Order or bake a cake specifically for the session. Opt for a smaller cake with a soft and easily smashable texture. I recommend a two or three-tiered 6" inch vanilla cake (not chocolate!). The icing should be white or pastels as bright/dark colors tend to stain skin and clothing. Be sure to avoid any potential allergens if your child has allergies. Dress them up: Choose an outfit that you don't mind getting messy. Cute and colorful outfits often work well. You can also consider using a special birthday outfit or a diaper cover for a more festive look. Enjoy the process: Remember that the cake smash session is meant to be a joyful and fun experience. Don't worry too much about perfection or a perfectly clean child. Embrace the mess and the laughter. By following these tips, you can help create a memorable cake smash session that captures the joy and excitement of your child's first birthday celebration. Including family members in a newborn photo session can add depth, emotion, and connection to the images.
Capturing the bond: Including parents, siblings, and even grandparents in the session allows you to capture the unique bond and love they share with the newborn. Celebrating the arrival: Welcoming a newborn is a joyous occasion for the entire family. Including family members in the photo session is a way to celebrate and document this milestone together, creating a lasting memory of the shared happiness. Creating heirlooms: Newborn photos often become cherished family heirlooms, passed down through generations. Including family members adds a multi-generational aspect to the photos, creating meaningful images that can be treasured by both the newborn and future family members. Emotional connection: When family members are involved, the photos evoke a deeper emotional connection. The expressions, interactions, and embraces captured between family members and the newborn convey love, tenderness, and the joy of new beginnings. When planning your wardrobe for a maternity session, here are some tips to consider:
Remember, the most important thing is for you to feel comfortable and confident in what you wear. Choose outfits that reflect your personal style and make you feel beautiful as you celebrate this special time in your life. 1. Embrace your bump: Choose clothing that accentuates your baby bump and celebrates your pregnancy. Opt for fitted or empire-waist dresses, tops, or shirts that highlight your belly. 2. Flowing and comfortable fabrics: Select fabrics that drape nicely and provide comfort. Flowing dresses, skirts, or tops made of chiffon, jersey, or cotton blends can be flattering and easy to move in. 3. Solid colors and subtle patterns: Solid colors can create a timeless and elegant look, while subtle patterns like delicate florals or soft stripes can add visual interest without overwhelming the focus on your bump. 4. Avoid overly busy patterns or large logos: These can distract from the main subject, which is your beautiful baby bump. Choose simpler designs that complement your shape. 5. Neutral or pastel tones: Soft, neutral colors like creams, grays, blush pinks, or pastels can create a serene and ethereal vibe. White is perfect too. They also tend to photograph well and complement various backgrounds. 6. Consider coordinating with your partner: If your partner will be part of the session, aim for outfits that complement each other. Matching colors or coordinating tones can create a cohesive and harmonious look. 7. Accessorize thoughtfully: Add some flair with accessories like belts, scarves, or statement jewelry. These can help add personality and style to your outfit while still keeping the focus on your bump. 8. Comfortable shoes: Opt for comfortable shoes, as you may be standing or moving around during the session. Flats, low heels, or even barefoot shots can be great options. Tips for a successful first birthday session:1. Plan in advance: Start planning the session well ahead of time to ensure you have enough time to book a photographer, select a location, and make any necessary arrangements. 2. Choose the right photographer: Look for a photographer who specializes in family or child photography and has experience with first birthday sessions. Review their portfolio to ensure their style aligns with your vision. 3. Select a meaningful location: Consider choosing a location that holds significance for your family or that reflects the theme or style you have in mind. It could be your home, a park, a studio, or any other place that creates a beautiful backdrop for the photos. 4. Set the right time: Schedule the session during a time when your child is typically well-rested and in a good mood. This will increase the chances of capturing happy and natural expressions. 5. Coordinate outfits: Plan outfits for the family members that complement each other and the overall theme or color scheme of the session. Avoid overwhelming patterns or logos that may distract from the focus on the child. 6. Prepare props and decorations: If you want to incorporate props or decorations, gather them in advance. This could include balloons, a cake for smashing, toys, or any other items that reflect your desired theme or aesthetic. 7. Be flexible and patient: Babies can be unpredictable, so be prepared to go with the flow during the session. Allow time for breaks, feedings, or diaper changes as needed. Patience and a relaxed attitude will help create a positive and enjoyable atmosphere. 8. Interact and engage with your child: During the session, interact with your child, play with them, and make them feel comfortable. This will help capture genuine expressions and create joyful moments. 9. Capture candid moments: While posed shots are lovely, candid moments often tell a more authentic story. Let the photographer capture spontaneous interactions and emotions between family members and the birthday child. 10. Enjoy the experience: Remember that the session is not just about getting perfect photos but also about celebrating your child’s milestone and enjoying precious family time. Relax, have fun, and cherish the moments together. By considering these tips, you can help ensure a successful first birthday session that captures beautiful memories of your child’s special milestone and your family’s love and togetherness. When hiring a newborn photographer, it’s important that your preferred photographer is trained not just in how to use a camera, but in how to ensure baby is kept happy, comfortable, and safe throughout the session. The means relying on natural light or soft flashes when photographing a baby, posing babies in a way that’s safe and comfortable while also beautiful, and utilizing post-processing techniques—such as composite imagery, eliminating jaundice, and even smoothing out things like scratches and blotchy skin that are very common with newborns. The bottom line is that there are things that a professional newborn photographer will know how to do well that novice photographers simply don’t know about. You’ll often find that newborn images are more expensive than other types, but that cost is a reflection of this key knowledge and attention to detail. Cormic's First Birthday & Cake Smash Photo Session in Santa Clarita, CA zammphotography photo studio4/6/2023 Did you know that your newborn's face changes within the first week of being born? Even their eye or hair color can change within a few months after birth!
Within a year, a newborn goes through so many changes that, without the help of photographs, you'd have a hard time remembering all those little quirks your babe had along the way. From changing faces and bodies to all those adorable expressions or movements, they all seem to go away in a moment. It is true about what people say -- they grow up so fast! That's why it's so important to capture all those little changes as they happen over time. While I urge you -- no, beg you! -- to take as many photographs of your darling cherub as you can, also consider having professional milestone photographs taken. With my milestone package, I'll make sure you have a series of exquisite, meaningful pictures of your newborn at various stages in his or her very early life. The package includes four different sessions, including a 3-month, 6-month, 9-month, and 1-year photo shoot. I’m a mom to a boy with a passion for capturing life’s most treasured moments. I learned while watching my own child grow up that time is short. Days pass quickly, and months pass us even faster. My mission is to capture all of these sweet milestones so that you can cherish them for years to come. I can’t wait to capture these memories in your babies first big year!
Don’t just stop at newborn photography! The first year of your baby’s life changes in a blink of an eye. The sweet baby coos will form into small words, and them sleeping throughout the day will soon turn into them crawling around your house. You see them each day but may not notice the subtle changes to your baby’s appearance and achievements. Why You Should Book A Maternity Session:
Nine months go by so fast, trust me. I know this from my own experience. Let me convince you why you need this session done. You will want to look back on yourself carrying your blessing. Your body is so strong and accomplished a lot in a short amount of time. Your children will ask to see these photographs of your pregnancy with them. When you show them, watch the sweet expressions come across their faces. Spoil yourself. You look wonderful. Have your hair and makeup done and feel how beautiful being pregnant really is. Your body is telling a story, and you should capture it. You might be on the fence about booking a session. It might be the last thing on your mind right now with preparing for a big arrival. I get it, I really do. You will want to remember this beautiful time in your life. When Should You Schedule Your Newborn Session?
The best time to photograph newborn babies is when they are under two weeks of age, after two weeks babies are a little harder to settle and things like colic and baby acne can start to flare up. You can contact me at any time during your pregnancy to give me an estimated due date, I will then make a tentative booking and when you arrive home from hospital with your brand new baby you can contact me to arrange a suitable time and day for your session. I forgot to schedule a newborn session is it too late? It is never too late to have your baby photographed. It is important to manage expectations of a session. Curly sleepy newborn photos are never guaranteed but usually achieved with babies under 2 weeks. A 6- week baby may sleep during a session and have awake time, but may not be able to curl into womb positions or want to be wrapped. I do believe that generally babies can be successfully photographed at any age. HOW YOU PLAN YOUR CAKE SMASH SESSION Scheduling: If you’d like to use your portraits to display at baby’s birthday party I recommend having your session take place when baby is 11 months old. This will give you time to make prints and order any products that you’d like to display. Avoid getting a chocolate cake. I also suggest avoiding cakes with a lot of red icing. My clients usually order cakes form @justbaked_la. Be prepared to participate! Some babies don’t quite get the hang of the smash right away so you may need to get your hands into the cake to help them get started. This is going to be messy. Please bring an extra outfit for baby and possibly one for yourself! ![]() |
